Space-saving operation desk and improved work efficiency

TV Asahi Service Corporation operates multiple breaking news systems. Previously, there were multiple dedicated systems on the control console in the news floor. There were PCs, keyboards, mice, and equipment and cables all over the desk. There were calls from the field for a review of the equipment layout and operating environment. The new system must allow efficient display and operation of multiple backup systems.

Black Box considered the requirements of the required system configuration. A model that meets the needs of the site was selected and tested in advance. Through this model, remote control and multi-view display could be achieved at the same time, and it was deemed to be a useful tool for future operations.

Flexible Black Box IP KVM solution adopting the “Emerald” ecosystem.

With this installation, the system equipment was moved to a device room on a different floor. The console was re-configured to only have the minimum number of monitors and control devices needed. Furthermore, the multi-view function allows multiple systems to be displayed on a limited number of screens and it is now possible to display and operate simultaneously on a single screen.

The system used consisted of a Zero U-type transmitter for each source PC, a multisource, multiview Emerald DESKVUE receiver, and a single monitor Emerald SE backup receiver. The system enabled remote control of the back-racked PCs from the news floor, while simultaneously displaying up to five system windows on a single monitor. The system’s requirements for implementation were clear:

1) Real-time updates even using split screen layouts;
2) High image quality;
3) Flexible monitor layout configuration; and
4) Redundancy to ensure continued operation even in the event of equipment failure.

Reasons for Introducing the Emerald Series and Future Developments

The preliminary testing confirmed that DESKVUE met all of these requirements. There was no delay or degradation in image quality, and the title bar, including the name of the connection destination, displayed on each split screen could be hidden. The ability to freely select and operate each window display was also a major plus. Furthermore, the ability to switch to Emerald SE in the event of a failure and continue operation was also highly praised.

There are considerations with a view to introducing the Emerald series further. This structure can be applied to other departments, and can be expanded to address similar issues.
